Why and How does a Blog Help SEO?

Why and How does a Blog Help Search Engine Optimization?

Let me begin by saying you should never blog just for the search engines. What I mean is, if you're going to start a blog, you should do for business and communication reasons, not for SEO reasons.

With that said ... yes, blogs do help with search engine visibility! A blog, or web log, is an online journal you can post content to quickly and easily.

While blogs used to be primarily kept by individuals (as online diaries), they have come into their own as business and marketing tools.
By default, blogs do many things well that can help them earn search engine ranking. In many cases, blogs can achieve solid ranking faster than regular websites. A blog is easier to publish than a regular website, so you can post content to it more often. SEO brings success on blogs because Search engines like websites with frequently updated content and blogs can be updated unlike other websites.

To summarize.. A blog is a great thing to have if you’re focused on SEO. A blog can be used to help a main website rank better in search engines simply due to increasing inbound links. Secondly, a blog is a natural inbound link magnet itself. Thirdly, a blog provides users with excellent publishing tools to write and format content in a search engine friendly way. All in all, if you have a website, it would be an excellent idea to also have a blog, covering a relevant topic to your main site. Doing so could be the difference of your site landing on page one, or page doesn’t matter.

Best ways on How to Improve Website Traffic

How to Increase Website Traffic

Bloggers are always hungry to learn new ways on how to improve website traffic. Here is a simple and easy tip that can help your blog website traffic skyrocket. Its very easy and you’ll kick yourself for not thinking of it sooner.

Blogs are known for burying awesome content. Basically once your post is pushed off your front page, then you leave traffic up to the Google gods. Which is fine… if you run healthy blog, Google and other search engines will pick up your post content and send you a nice trickle of constant traffic. That’s how it works for me at least…

Anyway, forget about Google for a minute and lets look at a way you can increase your traffic. Here is one of the things I do and its very simple.

1. Pull up some older articles and posts that you have written a few weeks to a few months ago. Open up your older articles in edit mode. Scan your article and look for some nice paired up keywords.
When you find a nice keyword pair, copy those words to clipboard and then paste them into the Google Blogsearch bar. The results will give you other blog articles that talk about the keywords you talked about in your post.
Simply copy the URL of the blog post you found in Google Blogsearch and go back to your original post and hyperlink your keyword phrase to the blog post you found in Google Blogsearch.
Doing this will create a pingback or trackback and 9 out of 10 times it will make a machine readable link on the other blog post back to yours. Additionally, you are going to bring attention to yourself from the author of the newly created article.
If you do this on a regular basis, you will increase your traffic to your blog. Not only that, when search bots come back to your older posts to check for updates, they will see a new link and give your individual page more value.

Then, There are plenty of other ways to generate attention for your web site, but you’ll also want to make sure you’re covering the basics too. Best ways to improve traffic would be..
Offer free, original, and quality content on your site. This is the most effective means for increasing traffic to a website; offering people something that they cannot obtain elsewhere, or at least, not to the level of quality that you are offering it. Ways in which to ensure that your content is of higher quality than competitors or is unique include:

◦Creating content that is helpful and useful.
◦Keep it fresh. For repeat visits, it is crucial to provide regular updates to the website, especially in frequently viewed zones. Add fresh content every few days if possible; at a minimum, weekly.

2. Improve your search engine ranking by focusing your content on keywords related to your topic. This is called search engine optimization and will help people find your website when they're searching the Web. Make sure the keywords flow naturally with the text and when you are brainstorming for good words, ask around for words that come naturally to people of all ages when looking for your type of site. To help you understand better, realize that the keywords not only go into headings and page names but also into "meta tags". "Meta tags" are the software code that website visitors do not see but search engines do. Finally, don't overdo the keywords; over-stuffing keywords will result in a very low search ranking for your website. Also, be very careful not to place key text inside graphics; search engines cannot pick up graphics.

3. Get linked. This is a very important part of website management. Exchanging links with related websites. Trading links with other websites that are closely related to the subject of your website can bring you more website traffic. These are two-way links because you must provide a link to them, too, and linking to low-quality websites can threaten the credibility of yours. Instead of trading links, you could also trade banner ads, half page ads, classified ads, etc.

4. Participate on Message boards/ Forums. Post answers to other people's questions, ask questions and post appropriate information. Include your signature file containing your website's URL at the end of all your postings.

Yahoo uses Authority and Trustrank

Is Yahoo Under the Influence of TrustRank?

Trustrank is a term coined by some Yahoo engineers to describe a new algorithm to determine relevant search results.

The new thing about Trustrank is that it does not solely count links like PageRank it’s based on but it also relies on authority.

Authority is measured by the proximity to a group of seed sites that are deemed to be authority sites.

It sounds complicated but in the end it’s simple: Let’s say Adobe.com is an authority site. A site x linked by Adobe.com is thus more authoritative than a site y that has been linked by site x or a site z that hasn’t been linked by any of those, Adobe, x or y. In this example y still inherits some authority from Adobe.com – Adobe trusts site x and site x trusts site y so that site y still must have some value.

Most people in the SEO industry assume that not only Yahoo employs Trustrank but Google as well without using the term maybe but inherently it’s the same concept.

How do you become an authority site? What are the actual factors of an authority site?

■links from the good seed sites or sites linked by such seed sites
■domain age, the older the better
■domain history, has a domain changed owners, topics, been used or misued for low quality content
■branding, does the domain have a brand and how often does that brand or domain name get mentioned
■cluster, a site belonging to a cluster of similar sites dealing with the same topic or is it an island
■hub, does the site link out to many other sites and is resource rich
■social media saturation, being prominent on social sites with votes by power accounts
■frequency, how often does a site offer new content
■integrity, broken links and images, other errors, high load times
■bad neighborhoods, does a site contain links to low quality sites or gets linked by such sites
■filters, does a site deal with topics like xxx, gambling, generic medicines
These are some of the aspects that are most likely determining your authority on the Web both from the user and a search engine perspective.
Most of these qualities can be acquired by SEO 2.0 others require good old SEO (1.0) best practices.

For instance you can get links from seed sites by applying the SEO 2.0 way of establishing relationships with others in your industry and beyond. On the other hand broken links require good old SEO 1.0 ways of checking them. Some of the above is not even considered SEO by many, for instance checking uptimes and security measures.

So you see there is much to do to become an authority site and to please an algorithm that employs some kind of Trustrank. I’m not the scientific SEO guy so I might be not very accurate in this list above but these are commom sense aspects of a functioning website that won’t hurt your site even in case the SEO benefits were marginal.

Simple Ways to Track What Your Readers Want

3 Ways Google Can Show What Your Readers Want

Well, what i'm telling you that Google has devised systems that allows you to tap into your readers’ psyche and magically predict which topics will interest them the most.
In fact, nothing is better for Google than for you to produce the type of content that people want to read. Every time you do, their search results get a little better. So they have really worked hard to provide tools which help you understand what topics are the most sought-after within your niche. Below are three free tools from Google along with tips for using them to improve your site:

Google Analytics
Google Analytics provides a great starting point for generating new content, because it can tell you what people already like about your site. As you look through the keywords that people have used to find your site in the search, pay close attention to the ones you have never really written about. If someone searched for this piece of information and the best they could find was an article that didn’t really answer their question, then you have just found a question worth answering on your site!

Search Based Keyword Tool
The next step is to look at the Google Search-Based Keyword Tool. If you have an Adwords campaign promoting your site, you can get keyword suggestions based directly on the content of your site. But this tool is still extremely useful if you don’t use Adwords.
What you’ll do is simply take the keywords that you identified from Google Analytics as being good topics for new articles, and plug them into the Google Keyword Tool. Google will show you related terms that people are searching for. This can help you understand what questions people need answered the most, so that you can make your new article as useful as possible.

Google Insights
Another great way to find related keywords is through Google Insights. This tool works a little differently than the search-based keyword tool in that it shows you recent search trends related to your topic. This is a great way to see which areas of your topic are becoming more popular with searchers. Being the first blogger to answer an important question can give your readership a tremendous boost in organic traffic as well as RSS subscriptions.

Google Is Your Best Friend
If you follow this process you will be able to attract more traffic naturally, because you will be creating articles that accurately reflect the needs of internet searchers. Google will be happy to send the traffic to you, because your new articles will answer the questions that people are looking to them for the answers to. They look good because you look good.
